Counting down the hours...tmr at this time I will be at the airport, probably boarding the plane. I can imagine making a dramatic departure, weeping as I stare out of the plane window...but then, I planned to do that when I left London last year, only I fell asleep before the plane even took off and when I woke up, we were already over Ireland So much for investing in the pack of tissue.

For the past two days I have been wondering why I can't really enjoy the simple life. If I wasn't as ambitious and greedy (yes, that is a common adjective to describe i-bankers), I could easily stay in Vancouver and work at some mundane job. And if I was simpler, I wouldn't even realize that the job is mundane and enjoy life happily.

Unfortunately, I like $ and I like power. I've been brought up understanding the importance and power of $, and that a bank account balance of $10.00 equates to subsistence living.

Maybe someday in the future I'll achieve that state of complacency. Until then, into the merciless financial world I go.

Getting cold feet...maybe I am not ready for work after all. Is this what Julia Roberts felt like in "Runaway Bride"? It's almost like a wedding for me, since I might as well marry my job because I will be working all the time. Seeing my Bloomberg screen will be like facing the same guy 24/7...what a nasty thought.

I really will miss Vancouver, with all the trees and yummy food and cosmopolitan lifestyle. Without sounding too sappy, I really cannot imagine another place I'd rather grew up. Hong Kong may be exciting and lively, but it's no Vancouver. And it makes me sad to think I might not be back for at least another year

Seems like everyone is looking for a place to live before their job starts...including me.

It's hard to afford a decent place to live when you are on a budget (duh). Must lower standards and forget about seaviews, clubhouses, gyms, shuttle buses, pools, tennis/squash courts...and fresh air and trees.

Hey, this is Hong Kong we are talking about.
